Watch out for common signs of cervical cancer

Vaginal bleeding after intercourse (not hymen tear) or after menopause.

Vaginal bleeding after menopause, abnormal bleeding between menstrual periods… are common  .

Experts from Parkway Cancer Center, Singapore, recognize that one of the biggest challenges in the treatment of cervical cancer is that the disease has no symptoms at an early stage, making it difficult to detect for early treatment. An estimated half of all women are diagnosed with cervical cancer when the cancer has already metastasized. Therefore, doctors recommend women to pay more attention to their bodies, when detecting any unusual signs, even very small, especially in the private area, they should go to the doctor for early treatment if detected. .

Late-stage cervical cancer often causes typical symptoms including:

Vaginal bleeding after intercourse (not tearing the hymen) or after menopause.

- Abnormal vaginal bleeding between periods.

Unusual vaginal discharge with a foul odor that is more unpleasant than usual.

Frequent lower abdominal pain or during intercourse.

- Backache.

- Painful or difficult urination, cloudy urine.

Chronic constipation, feeling that there is still stool even though you have finished defecating.

- Leaking urine or stools from the vagina.

Note: The above symptoms are easily confused with a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection, so experts recommend that women should be screened periodically, proactively and on schedule. Only in this way can abnormalities be detected and intervened early.

One of the most common screening methods for cervical cancer is the Pap smear, which is a sample of cells on the surface of the cervix during vaginal examination. This test is quick, simple, and painless. Statistics show that timely and periodic cervical smear can reduce the incidence of cervical cancer by up to 90%.
